The Special Day!

I'm not married but I have been around brides the night before their wedding and I can testify that, they don't sleep. If they say they slept, please they lied. There's so much going on in their minds that they even find it difficult to blink. They toss around so much they often wake up under rumpled sheets and with headaches.  For the groom, I haven't been around any the night before their wedding but any of you who have should kindly tell me about it. (I am eager to know).

I am pretty sure the night to their day for Mr and Mrs Emi-Reynolds was similar to the ones I have experienced. The brides do all their last calls especially if you do not have a wedding planner to take over some of your duties, then you are under some sort of pressure, thinking if everything is set for the big day. Let me not leave our men out of this, they are also under some sort of pressure but not as much as ladies. Every little detail is relevant to us and therefore we try to make that day as perfect as possible.

Engaged!

Traditional marriages popularly called Engagement in Ghana are the most prestigious marriages in the country. The mothers are very busy on that day(they just can't sit) and the fathers yes, want you to know you have come to his house and his daughter is the one getting married!

It is during this ceremony that the country's culture is properly displayed. From attires worn by the couple to conversational styles, are purely Ghanaian. The 'Okyeames' (the linguist who stands in as a representative for the family during the ceremony. It is called Okyeame in the local dialect, twi) are very jovial and they make the ceremony beautiful! I for instance cannot wait for an engagement to begin because the 'Okyeames' crack me up! (in my opinion the Okyeame from the groom's family is mostly the funniest).

One tip they have to give, when you are renting chairs, tables and canopies for the day it will be best to rent from a nearby place. It is very convenient. There's no excuse of traffic and even if you may be in need of extra chairs, getting them will not be a problem.

As a bride you should look your very best on your engagement day! For some of the family members of the groom, it may be their first time seeing you and you must give them something to talk about. (you know!).

Now to my favourite part FOOD!! Yeah! you guessed right!

Now let's talk about what they wore

Kente is the most unique and beautiful print in Africa! precisely Ghana. Dorcas's kente was woven from the heart of kente in the country, Bonwire in the Ashanti  Region. The patterns have been beautifully woven in and o! my the colours! For accessories, we see that she didn't use much. The kaba has a high neckline thus wearing a choker is going to make her neck look short and wearing a long necklace is also somehow going to distort the look she wanted to achieve. Her necklace was just perfect.  Her earrings were small and she wore small bracelets on both hands. Simplicity at its best!

Ben's attire matched with Dorcas's by adding some of the kente in his. He choose the colour white linen fabric as the main colour in order to show off the kente and also not to look too loud because the pink and  turquoise in the kente are bright enough.

When We Met

Many talk of love at first sight. Others say love grows. Others have too many things to say about love (I can't write it all). The question today is what is love? (Take a sec and think about it). Love is what makes two people inseparable, love is what makes a man say "will you marry me?" and makes the woman say "yes, yes I will!!". It is this love, that drove our first couple to make this commitment.

Let me introduce our first couple for Vows and Rings!
Meet Mr and Mrs. Benjamin Emi-Reynolds. Let's hear how they met!

Well, Mrs. Dorcas Emi-Reynolds happened to be an intern at Benjamin's organization and there, was where is all began. (O ye interns, be on the lookout you may never know who is watching!) So they began as friends and also as co-workers of the same organization and voila! marriage!!

Mr and Mrs Benjamin and Dorcas Emi-Reynolds have allowed us to share their journey to that day, the day that they will never forget. Thank you!
